AUN/SEED-Net Journal Guidelines

  Background

As a fruit of the collaboration and support of all Member Institutions and Japanese Supporting Universities, ASEAN Engineering Journal (ASEAN E. J.) supported by JICA Project for AUN/SEED-Net has been launched to be a platform for ASEAN engineering scholars and researchers to publish their research papers. The journal is designed to be a collection of new and innovative knowledge emerged in ASEAN and a foundation of dissemination of researches of the ASEAN people, with topics that fulfill needs of the region.

The ASEAN Engineering Journal is scheduled to be released at least four issues per year in both electronic and hard copy formats under the scope of nine engineering fields, grouped accordingly by theme as follows.

a) Civil, Environmental, and Geological Engineering
b) Chemical and Materials Engineering
c) Electrical & Electronics Engineering and Information & Communication Technology
d) Manufacturing and Mechanical & Aeronautical Engineering
(Interdisciplinary researches can be considered in any relevant themes.)

The journal is open for submission from all researchers in the ASEAN region, including young staff and graduate students. Following types of papers are published: Full Papers, Notes, and Technical Reports. Reviews are irregularly published at the request of AUN/SEED-Net to the specified authors. The copyright of each paper will be transferred to AUN/SEED-Net. All papers calls should be sent via email to journal@aun-seed.net.

  Guidelines for Authors

1. Papers submission: Paper should be submitted in soft copy to journal@aun-seed.net. It must not have been published elsewhere. Paper submission form must be attached with the submitted manuscript.

2. Deadline: Specific deadline is not set. ASEAN E.J is not limited to ASEAN academicians, but welcomes submission from all interested researchers.

3. Manuscript Types:  The journal publishes four types of papers; Papers, Notes, Technical Reports, and Reviews. Reviews are irregularly published at the request of AUN/SEED-Net to the specified authors.

  • Papers should be a report in full of a significant work and be more than 5 pages. Articles are reviewed by selected reviewers.
  • Notes should be also a report in full of a significant work that is limited in scope and are restricted to
4 pages. Articles are reviewed by selected reviewers.
  • Technical Reports are technical contribution providing and will be worth publishing as either Papers or Notes in the future. Articles are generally less than two pages and will not be reviewed.

4. Paper Review Process

To ensure the high quality of published material, ASEAN E.J. utilizes a group of experts to review submitted manuscripts, assigned by the Section Editor-in-chief of each field of engineering. Upon the acknowledgement of the receipt of the manuscript by the authors, a copy of the manuscript, along with a review “Manuscript Evaluation Form,” will be sent to each selected reviewer for the manuscript.  Authors are able to specify their preferred reviews in the paper submission form.

The feedback will be sent back to the Secretariat by two months and upon consultation with the Section Editor-in chief, will be reverted to the author.

5. How to Prepare a Manuscript

The paper must be submitted as completed one, and meets the requirements below.

  • The paper must be in English.
  • The manuscript must be attached with the ASEAN E.J.’s submission form.
  • The manuscript should be prepared according to the ASEAN E.J’s Paper format following the template given in the website.
  • Figures in the manuscript may be in color; however, the journals will be printed in black and white only.

Criteria: The paper will be judged following the below three main criteria;

A.  Usefulness: The paper is beneficial in the engineering or industrial practice as follows.

  • The topic and the content are timely and useful.
  • The research/technological findings have great potential of application, use or development, or can be put into practice.
  • The research/technological findings serve as useful information.
  • A good systemization of research/technology in the respective field is suggested, giving future exploration opportunities.
  • The research/technological findings can be applied to future experiments, investigations, planning, design or construction works.
  • The paper brings up an issue or a discussion and/or offers beneficial opinion on them.
  • The test/measurement data can serve as reference data for other researches or construction works.
  • It proposes new figures, tables and diagrams that are useful for application.

B. Completeness: The paper is clear, comprehensible and structured systematically to allow readers to understand the content easily as follow.

  • The overall structure is appropriate.
  • The purpose and the results are clearly described. The background research is sufficiently explained with necessary references.
  • The abstract appropriately summarize the contents of the paper.
  • The relationship with past research/technology is clearly shown.
  • The use of language is appropriate.
  • Figures/tables and the numbers are easy to understand.
  • The paper is not repetitive.

C. Reliability: The paper does not have any significant mistakes in the content, thus serving readers as a reliable literature.

  • The paper contains no apparent errors on theory, equations, computation, experiment, interpretation of results.
  • Every single important reference is dealt with and evaluated in a fair manner.
  • Its description is not redundant or insufficient for understanding the contents
  • The comparison is made and evaluation carried out with reference to past researches/technologies and appropriate conclusions are derived.
  • The test/analytical conditions are clearly described.

6. Copyright Attribution (Transfer of Copyright):

Author(s) acknowledge the manuscript is being provided on a volunteer basis for the professional recognition obtained by ASEAN E.J.

The copyright of all articles in the Paper is attributed (transferred) to ASEAN E.J. upon the paper acceptance by submission of a written consent form from the authors. When a third person applies for use of the whole or part of the article, ASEAN E.J. can give him/her permission unless deemed inappropriate. In such a case, ASEAN E.J. will later notify the author of how his/her article is used.
