The AUN/SEED-Net Open House was initiated in 2007 to promote the Graduate Scholarship Programs as well as the other Project's activities to prospective scholars and to enable alumni from different fields to work together and share experiences with future generation of scholars. The first Open House was held by faculty staff and alumni at National University of Laos on November 27, 2007, with a hundred of prospective candidates attended. From the success of the first Open House, the Secretariat encourages this activity to be organized by other Member Institutions from Phase 2 onwards.

Organized by AUN/SEED-Net alumni with assistance and advice from their institutions and the Secretariat, the open house is a forum for the host institutions to promote study programs and recruit good candiates; the alumni to pass on experiences and guidance to the audience; and the audience to gain insightful information about graduate programs, scholarships, and living in host countries.
